Dice Up RPG

DUPRG was designed to let you play in as many settings as you want WITHOUT having to change systems. You can take the core and quickly customize it to fit whatever you and your friends are into. You can use the system for one-shot adventures, mini-series or even long running campaigns. There is no limit to the worlds you can play in, you just need to decide on what you want to do and the system will help you get it to the game table.

When customizing DURPG for your game, you will want to think a bit about the setting, style and tone you want and the kinds of stories you want to tell. If everyone playing is really into a particular movie, TV series, book series or video game, then you can use DURPG to tell your own stories in those settings. Think a bit about the setting, style and tone you want to play in. The setting is where the game takes place, which can be anywhere you want. The style of game refers to the level of fantasy vs reality you’ll have in your game. The tone of the game refers to how light or dark the content will be, something like lighthearted or dark and gritty. Once you know these answers, they will inform your choices in creating the game and you will be able to make DURPG your own!

Throughout this guide there are places that will ask or encourage you to customize it to make it your own. These areas include the types of roles players will play, story elements that make up their heroes, the names for Stats and the kinds of stuff the heroes will have.

Setting, Style and Tone?

  • Where will it take place, what will the style and tone be, and what kinds of information will the players need in advance to be able to play the game?

Heroes?

  • What are the kinds of heroes that the players will be able to make? What kinds of roles can they choose from? What kinds of story elements will help define them? What are the names for their stats, which will help tie the mechanics into the story and setting?

Duration?

  • Will you be running a one-shot game, kind of like a movie? Will it be a mini-series, or a set number of sessions? Will it be an open-ended campaign? This helps you understand how much to prep and how to handle hero advancement, or what and how often to award them for advancing the story.

Other Considerations?

  • There are many optional tools you can use or ways to further customize the game. So long as the core mechanics are not drastically altered, there’s no limit to what you can modify to make it your own.
